Masterclass at the State Equestrian Centre
A highlight of Laura’s time in WA was her participation in the high‑profile masterclass held at the State Equestrian Centre (SEC). Running alongside renowned coach Christopher Bartle, the session attracted a strong audience of riders, coaches and spectators eager to learn from one of the world’s leading event riders.
Laura’s masterclass contributions focused on rideability, balance, decision‑making and producing horses for longevity at the top level. Her delivery was clear, practical and rider‑focused, with an emphasis on correctness and feel rather than quick fixes. Participants and spectators alike gained valuable insight into how elite performance is built through structure, consistency and thoughtful partnership with the horse.
The masterclass reinforced the SEC’s role as a premier education and performance venue and provided a rare opportunity for WA riders to observe Olympic‑level thinking and technique in a live training environment.
In addition to the masterclass, Laura conducted a dedicated clinic for WA riders, working closely with combinations over showjumping and cross‑country phases. The clinic format allowed riders to benefit directly from her experience, with Laura tailoring her advice to suit a wide range of horses and rider levels.
Key themes throughout the clinic included maintaining rhythm, developing adjustability, improving accuracy and building confidence—particularly in cross‑country situations. Laura’s approachable coaching style and attention to detail helped riders identify practical improvements they could take home and apply to their own training programs.
The clinic was widely regarded as a rare and valuable development opportunity for the WA eventing community, providing direct access to knowledge normally seen only on the international stage.
Laura’s competitive appearances at Equestrian in the Park 2023 brought undeniable international flair to the event. Competing on borrowed horses, she showcased exceptional adaptability and horsemanship, quickly building effective partnerships under unique and fast‑paced conditions.
Her rides were polished, confident and tactically astute, reflecting the skill and composure expected of an Olympic gold medallist. Laura’s ability to deliver high‑level performances on unfamiliar horses captivated spectators and highlighted the depth of her experience and talent.
Beyond her results, her presence elevated the overall profile of EITP, reinforcing its reputation as a truly world‑class event capable of attracting and hosting elite international athletes.
Laura Collett’s involvement in EITP 2023 left a lasting impression on Western Australian equestrian sport. From elite education at the SEC, to hands‑on rider development through clinics, and top‑tier competition at Equestrian in the Park, her visit delivered meaningful value at every level.
